FFP2 masks are quite expensive for welfare recipients. But not all communities are ready to remedy this despite the Corona crisis.

FFP2 masks are quite expensive for welfare recipients.

But not all communities are ready to remedy this despite the Corona crisis.

Putzbrunn

- Mayor Edwin Klostermeier (SPD) rejected the application from FWG / FDP that the community should procure FFP2 masks for recipients of basic income.

"That is clearly not our job," emphasized the town hall chief in the main committee.

The Free State and the social security agencies are responsible for this.

If you have a need, you can get masks in the town hall, but despite the Corona crisis there has been no demand so far.

The parliamentary group made up of the FDP and Free Voters had submitted the request as an urgency request.

In it they asked the administration to procure a sufficient number of FFP2 protective masks and to distribute them to all recipients of basic social security benefits living in the community.

The reason given by Michael Schultz (FDP) was that the procurement of such masks was a financial problem for this population group.

With a unit price between one and three euros per mask, the costs would be considerable.

"The almost free issue of twelve masks to people over 60 years of age or with previous illnesses does not defuse the situation in view of the fear of a lockdown by Easter," said Schultz.

Coronavirus Bavaria: Putzbrunn does not procure any FFP2 masks for those in need

Klostermeier did not see any urgency in this case.

The Free State has already distributed masks for the elderly and the needy, as has the district office in nursing homes or to the Lebenshilfe.

Social assistance and the subsidy for people in need of care have been increased especially for the procurement of masks.

"This is again a very typical case: The Free State issues an FFP2 mask requirement and we municipalities should take care of it," complained Klostermeier.

"So I say: No, we won't do that, that is clearly the job of the Free State or the social security agencies."

Corona in Bavaria: Putzbrunn does not procure FFP2 masks - "In Berlin and Munich, incapacity rules"

However, the community has already obtained 500 FFP2 masks.

"We communicated this on the board and to family carers, but no more than 15 or 20 citizens brought masks," said branch manager Michael Hohberg.

“Therefore,” the mayor emphasized, “if you come to the town hall and say that you need a mask, you will also get one.”

Martin Adler (FWG) replied that nobody knows at the moment when the support and distribution of masks by the Free State and the District Office will end.

"We only care that masks are in stock, it is not about large amounts." Robert Böck (GPP) argued similarly: "In Berlin and Munich, in this case, the inability rules, we as a community should step in." Tobias Stokloßa (CSU) did not see it that way: "The subsidies have been increased and over 450 masks have been in the town hall for a long time, so there is no need." Klostermeier added that it was also impossible for the community to meet the need for masks in To determine Putzbrunn.

Accordingly, the main committee rejected the proposal with a 5: 2 vote.
