The Automobile Club de l'Ouest has announced that it is postponing the organization of the 89th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans to August 21 and 22, 2021. This was initially scheduled for June 12 and 13.
The ACO thus wishes to give itself every opportunity to welcome the public, in strict compliance with sanitary measures.
Already last year, the premier Endurance event was postponed to September 19 and 20 and the race took place behind closed doors.
“This decision, although difficult to make, is the most appropriate.
We cannot imagine organizing the 24 Hours of Le Mans without spectators for the second consecutive year.
It is therefore our duty to do everything possible to achieve this essential objective while guaranteeing competitors visibility throughout the season.
We work tirelessly to offer a safe event, providing the necessary and essential health guarantees.
The show promises to be exciting on the track, with the arrival of the new Hypercar category, ”commented Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO.
