A magnitude 8.1 earthquake hit the New Zealand coastline in the Kermadec Islands region early Friday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
It is the third earthquake this morning according to the New Zealand National Emergency Management Agency. A tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake that struck northeast New Zealand near the Kermadec Islands region. People close to shore should 'move immediately to the nearest high ground, out of all tsunami evacuation zones, or as far inland as possible. Don't stay at home, ”the agency states on its website.
