The closure of the Postbank branch in Benediktbeuern poses a challenge for customers in the Loisach Valley.

Although the Deutsche Post services are still available in a stationery shop in the monastery village, the Postbank's banking operations are no longer possible there.

Benediktbeuern - Ute Pappenberger-Geinitz, a long-time customer from Benediktbeuern, has now announced her anger in an email to the company.

"The decision to close the branch in Benediktbeuern puts me in a difficult position," she says.

“I don't have access to my Postbank account here, in Penzberg or in Kochel, which I use regularly as a freelancer every month.” Instead, she has to go to Tölz or Weilheim.

She uses online banking and can do a lot from home, explains Pappenberger-Geinitz in an interview with the Tölzer Kurier.

The branch needs you as a self-employed person, but mainly because of cash deposits.

ATM does not pay off

The branch in Benediktbeuern was closed due to the low demand, a press spokesman for Postbank announced on request.

Even an ATM would not pay off: “We understand very well that customers are annoyed that we no longer offer banking services in Benediktbeuern.

Rest assured that we did not make this decision easy. "

The spokesman points out that you can get cash free of charge at ATMs of the Cash Group partners, for example at Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and HypoVereinsbank as well as at Shell petrol stations and supermarkets (e.g. at Netto in Bichl, Aldi in Kochel and Edeka in Penzberg).

If you want to pay in, you have to go to Weilheim or Bad Tölz

If you use another provider, however, there is a fee - Ute Pappenberger-Geinitz has already had this experience: "I once paid 7.50 euros for a payout."

If, on the other hand, customers want to make a cash deposit into their account, they have to look carefully where this is possible - either in Postbank finance centers in Tölz and Weilheim or at machines with so-called cash recyclers.

Ute Pappenberger-Geinitz is annoyed about the thinned-out branch network, which is very difficult to reach by public transport in the country.

She has been a Postbank customer for around 50 years: "But if there is no other solution here, I am unwillingly forced to terminate my decades-long business relationship with Postbank."

Postbank has reduced the branch network

According to its own information, Postbank has reduced its branch network in Germany to around 800 in recent years, plus 2,600 so-called partner branches.

This means all kinds of shops that have a small Deutsche Post service counter.

In Bad Tölz there is also a Postbank branch on Hindenburgstrasse.

When asked about its future, the company said: "No changes are currently planned here."
