Seven adults in Hong Kong have insomnia problems. Long-term insomnia is very troublesome for urbanites. Teenagers are in the sensitive stage of mental illness. Insomnia increases their risk of depression and other diseases.

Two universities in Hong Kong and Canadian institutions have collaborated on research and launched the world’s first "prevention of insomnia" program for high-risk youths. It was found that during a one-year follow-up period, the program can help young people reduce their risk of insomnia by 71%. Clearly, don’t take your worries to bed. The bed system is not about work." The more you worry about insomnia, the more insomnia you get.

Some young people with insomnia recalled that when they were unable to fall asleep, they would no longer "roam around" in bed. Instead, they would feel sleepy when they got up to read and read books.

Sufficient sleep is very luxurious for Hong Kong people. Many people have tried insomnia, and the situation will continue to affect daily life.

Adolescent insomnia is even more concerning. The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Medicine, Hong Kong University, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Faculty of Psychology, Laval University, Canada invited 242 Hong Kong middle school students aged 12 to 18 to participate in the study from 2015 to 2017, with an average age of 15 , 57% are girls. The participating secondary schools are all over Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories, concentrated in Sha Tin and Tai Po.

Participants are high-risk adolescents. They have mild insomnia symptoms once or twice a month, and at least one of their parents has insomnia problems.

242 people were divided into the insomnia prevention group and the control group. The intervention group was given four sessions to explain insomnia knowledge and strategies. After one year of follow-up with the participants, the team found that only 5.8% of the insomnia prevention group had 3 nights a week, and the control group had 20.7 %, using statistical methods to estimate that the risk of insomnia in the prevention of insomnia group was reduced by 71%.

Although the sleep time of both groups increased, the sleep time of the insomnia prevention group increased by half an hour to nearly 8 hours (477.3 minutes) after participating in the study, and the control group increased sleep time of 10 minutes to nearly 7.6 hours (459.7 minutes).

There is no significant difference in depression index, with 5.2 points in the insomnia prevention group and 6 points in the insomnia group.

Tommy, who is currently a third-year university student, suffers from insomnia two nights a week in the middle of three. The attack of insomnia may affect him for half an hour. Sometimes it will make him "look at the sky". His father has insomnia problems.

After Tommy participated in the research, he understood that insomnia is not a terrible thing. "Don't worry about reprimanding the next day, get out of bed after reprimanding to do other things," but don't use the phone or do strenuous exercise.

In the past, when he had insomnia, he would toss and turn in bed, but it would not increase the desire to sleep. On the contrary, getting out of bed and reading books and warming books can distract attention and make it easier to fall asleep with regular sleep time.

One year after the epidemic, Tommy said frankly that he would worry about being infected and increase his own pressure, but as long as he continues to read, he will gradually become tired and sleepy. Currently, he suffers from insomnia once a month.

Rong Runguo, head of the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK, reminds the public, "Don’t take your troubles to bed, don’t take your worries to bed. The bed department trains and teaches you to work." "The more you worry about insomnia, the more insomnia." The public needs a balanced diet, regular exercise, and regular work and rest to "train well."

Tommy reads when he suffers from insomnia. Chen Yinyan, research assistant professor at the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, CUHK, added that participants will be reminded not to do activities that affect sleep during insomnia, including eating and drinking, strenuous exercise, using smartphones, etc. Some people will choose Being in a daze, applying a mask and stretching can all help you fall asleep.

A joint study conducted by CUHK, the University of Hong Kong and the University of Laval in Canada found that it can reduce the risk of insomnia among high-risk adolescents by 70%.

Insomnia is a global problem. Charles M Morin, a professor of psychology at Laval University in Canada, pointed out that insomnia is very common among Canadian middle school students and believes that this study can help prevent insomnia in the local area.

Rong Runguo said that research has proved that insomnia can be prevented. It is a long-term and key medical strategy. "One mosquito can prevent 10 mosquitoes in medical expenses." However, he bluntly said that Hong Kong pays less attention to the problem of insomnia. The funding for the insomnia project, "What's the point? I don't know, CUHK does not pay much attention to insomnia?"
