The Israel Police has changed the wording of the screening tests for candidates to its ranks, so that they will be adapted to all genders.

Walla!

It was announced today (Thursday) that as part of the change, the examinee is asked to answer in the computerized questionnaire regarding his gender - male, female or other.

We will be tested to answer "other", we will be asked to indicate in which language he is interested in being tested - male or female.

The change was carried out by the Gender Equality and Cultural Diversity Unit established in the police in October 2019 by the then Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent Moti Cohen. Yifat Sheklar, and will soon be replaced by Lt. Gen. Sigal Toledo, who has served as police spokeswoman for the past two years.

The unit is responsible for formulating policy, writing procedures and orders and institutionalizing work processes with the stated goal of the police to bring about diversity in the ranks of the police in a way that reflects Israeli society.

Within the unit, a professional section is responsible for assimilating the multicultural consciousness in the ranks of the police, and the change in the wording of the questionnaires is the result of his work.

As part of its activities, the section initiates moves to promote equal opportunities within the organization.

Moreover, the activity of the entire unit focuses on identifying barriers that make it difficult to promote special populations within the police.

Among other things, it promotes intra-organizational and extra-organizational advocacy in the field of combating gender or cultural inequality.

Thus, among the tasks defined for the unit's personnel, it is possible to initiate actions so that they will enable the police to meet recruitment targets from special populations.
