The garbage problem in the alternative dining room

In lockdown, the closed catering can only offer take-away offers.

They are also gladly accepted in Schliersee.

When the weather is nice, locals and guests like to go to the Kurpark to eat - and leave a lot of rubbish there.

The church now wants to respond.

Schliersee

- The hustle and bustle at Spitzingsee brought Schliersee's Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer (CSU) a busy January.

He should answer media inquiries from all over Germany.

He was one of those local politicians who were critical of the onslaught of day trippers in the corona lockdown (we reported).

But Schliersee was and is not only overrun up on the mountain, but also increasingly in the valley as the temperatures keep getting warmer.

And with the crowds comes a garbage problem.

“Heavy visitor numbers” cause mountains of rubbish

Gabriele Murrisch (CSU) checked the main administrative committee on Tuesday.

"The number of guests in the spa park is already heavy," she said.

And the garbage volume has increased accordingly.

This now clearly exceeds the capacity of the trash cans.

Can the community perhaps provide bigger garbage cans - and nicer ones on top of that? She asked.

Community gardener should look around for new garbage cans

By chance Schnitzenbaumer had discussed exactly this with community gardener Reiner Pertl on the very same day.

“Today I got the job to look for bigger and nicer ones,” he said in the committee and also described the scope of the problem.

“At this time of year we usually have to empty the trash cans two or three times a week.” This year the community workers are out and about every day, and yet the bins overflow.

No wonder: "If you stuff two pizza boxes in there, they're already full," said Schnitzenbaumer.

And in times of to-go gastronomy, the Kurpark seems to be becoming increasingly popular as an alternative dining room.

A pizza can be found a few meters away at the train station, and other restaurateurs in the vicinity offer take-away meals.

And unlike the consumption of alcohol and barbecuing, simple hunger pills are not forbidden in the spa gardens.

The trash cans are correspondingly full.

Most recently, the municipality hung extra bags next to the green containers, but that doesn't look good in a spa park.

Pertl should now quickly find a replacement, but also reminded them that Schliersee has over 200 rubbish bins in its municipality.

“You have to think about the future.” However, the committee initially attached great importance to solving the problem at the garbage hotspots.

The municipality also strives for waste separation

Schnitzenbaumer thought that one could also tackle the topic of waste separation right away.

All types of waste are currently being put into the green bins, and there is no subsequent sorting.

The mayor estimates that 90 percent of the rubbish that ends up there can be recycled.

At least for paper and plastic, you could add your own containers.

Christoph Stöger (Die Schlierseer) said: also for glass.

Reusable systems in to-go restaurants could help

However, avoiding rubbish would be even better than throwing it away.

And that already exists in Schliersee.

The Ratskeller offers its take-away meals in the reusable system and uses a Germany-wide deposit system for this.

Schnitzenbaumer could well imagine that other restaurateurs would follow suit.

“How will you approach them?” Announced the mayor in the committee.

Of course, he does not want to put any pressure on the hosts planned for Corona, rather it should be done "on a voluntary basis".

There was already a rubbish problem in the summer.
