The first groundbreaking for the subway project fell victim to the corona pandemic last autumn.

Nevertheless, a replacement parking lot was built.

It's finished now.

The P&R parking deck continues in mid-March.

Martinsried

- The fact that Kerstin Schreyer, Bavaria's Minister for Housing, Construction and Transport, announced on Wednesday that work on the subway tunnel between Großhadern Clinic and Martinsried would start this year (we reported) caused a surprise in the Planegg town hall.

The municipality is the owner of the extension of the U6, even if it only pays 1.67 percent of the eligible costs, the district is 3.33 percent and the Free State is the largest donor with 95 percent.

“We don't know about anything, but we wouldn't block ourselves from it,” said Mayor Hermann Nafziger when asked.

This is of course not realistic.

“When it comes to building the subway, we're talking about the beginning of 2022, but definitely not before that,” says Planegg's managing director Stefan Schaudig.

Three and a half years after the special meeting of the municipal council, in which the contracts for the extension of the U6 were unanimously approved, something is still to be seen: the replacement parking lot on the corner of Am Klopferspitz and Würmtalstraße, where university employees can park, while above part of the regular campus parking lot a parking deck in steel composite construction is built.

When the subway starts operating, up to 80 subway users will be able to park their cars on the upper level for a fee, while downstairs is reserved for the employees of the university facilities.

The subway is to go into operation with the timetable change in 2025/26

It is planned that the subway will start in Martinsried from the 2025/26 timetable change.

The town hall in Planegger attaches great importance to the fact that the stop between Lena-Christ-Straße and the campus is not a final stop.

The significantly larger parking capacities in Großhadern were retained.

“If people notice that they cannot park easily here, that will work out,” hopes Nafziger.

The option of extending the parking deck in width does exist, however.

The replacement parking lot, which is located on the grounds of the Free State and offers space for around 120 cars, was hardly leveled when the first mobile homes and caravans were parked there.

So they built a barrier and also want to provide the entrance with a height limit.

The parking lot is not public and is not tarred.

“It doesn't have to last forever,” says Nafziger.

However, the area will still be needed when the parking deck will be completed in an estimated nine to twelve months: As soon as the tunnel work begins, the containers with the offices of construction management and workers, building material and excavation, which must be sampled, are to be there and further south , Find space.

"It's a small start, the first sign that something is happening in terms of the underground," says Nafziger about the replacement parking space.

Intensive work has been carried out in the background at least since the foundation of the Martinsried Projektmanagement GmbH & Co.KG U-Bahn in 2018.

How do you bring the outdated planning up to date. A final cost estimate is still pending.

Instead of the 73.5 million euros from 2012, there is now talk of 130 million.
