Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro last night (Thursday) told his citizens to stop "crying" over the corona plague and move forward, after two consecutive days in which the daily record of deaths from the virus was broken.

More than 260,000 have died from the virus in the South American country, second only to the United States, but while the epidemic there is on the decline, Brazil is in its deadliest phase.

The health care system is on the verge of collapse, but the far-right president opposes the restrictions and continues to downplay the severity of the virus, which he himself has contracted.

"Enough to be afraid and cry. How long will the crying last?" Bolsonaro said at the event he attended.

"How long will you stay home and shut everything down? No one can stand it anymore. We are sorry for the dead, but again, we need a solution."

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health registered 75,102 new diagnoses for Corona, the highest figure since mid-July and the second highest since the outbreak of the plague.

Brazil also reported 1,699 new deaths, a slight decrease compared to the previous two days when the record was broken continuously.

The second wave of the epidemic in Brazil has led to new restrictions in the capital Brasilia and the country's largest city, Sao Paulo.

Rio de Janeiro yesterday announced a curfew and early closure of restaurants.

On the other hand, the federal government is slow in purchasing and distributing vaccines.

Less than 3.5% of citizens received at least one dose.

Health authorities are particularly concerned about the formation of a new variant in the Amazon region, which appears to be more contagious and has a greater ability to re-infect people who have recovered from Covid-19.
