Washington-SANA

A study published in Science revealed the existence of a new exoplanet that appears to be ideal for searching for an atmosphere and for traces of life around a star other than our sun.

Jose A.

Capapiero, one of the authors of the study in which researchers from five continents contributed, told Agence France-Presse, “The ultimate goal is to find biological markers and vital fingerprints in the atmosphere of exoplanets ... that is, signs of life on habitable planets that resemble Earth.” The outer planet has an atmosphere ”.

The planet is 26 light-years away, which makes it the third closest exoplanet transiting among the outer planets that scientists know, and its transient adjective means that it is on a path that it sees.

The lead author of the study, a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy Trifon Trifonov, said that the proximity of the newly discovered planet to its star makes its temperature reach at least 430 degrees and is full of volcanoes and lava rivers, which means that it is uninhabitable.

Trifonov described the discovered planet (Glies 486b) as "a remarkable discovery that is expected to become an essential element in the atmospheric research of the rocky exoplanets."

"We reviewed 350 red dwarf stars for signs of smaller planets," he added.

The number of exoplanets that have been discovered outside the solar system over the last twenty-five years is four thousand, but so far only a small number of them have been found to have an atmosphere, while Capapiero explained that they were large gas or icy planets, indicating that no research has yet been conducted on Earth-sized planets.

The discovery of these planets allowed researchers to conduct a study on an exoplanet that has a rocky nature like Earth and could have an atmosphere similar to ours, according to Cabapiero.
