Residents of accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) "
will be able to go out if they are vaccinated,
" the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, said on Friday March 5, who wants to "
gradually give them back
their
freedom
".
"
Ehpad residents will be able to go out if they are vaccinated, with at least 15 days of follow-up after the second injection,
" he said on RMC and BFMTV.
To read also: "Let us free the nursing homes from a principle of precaution taken to the extreme!"
"
This is what the Council of State asked us
," he recalled, two days after the country's highest administrative court suspended the ban in force for several months, deemed "
disproportionate
" to the yardstick of the 80% of residents now vaccinated with at least one dose against Covid-19.
The minister added that he had previously referred the matter to the High Council of Public Health (HCSP) which also “
encouraged
” him to relax this recommendation, “
therefore we are gradually giving them freedom
”.
But "
we still lack caregivers in nursing homes that we must vaccinate to really protect them,
" said Olivier Véran.
To date, 43% of nursing home staff have received at least one dose of serum, according to Public Health France.
Thursday evening, Prime Minister Jean Castex called on them "
solemnly
" to be vaccinated "
very quickly
" to allow the return of a "
peaceful social life
" in these establishments and a relaxation of "
visiting rights for families
".
A consultation "
with representatives of the families of residents, lawyers and ethicists
" is scheduled for Friday, indicated the Minister for Autonomy, Brigitte Bourguignon, who intends "to
propose in the coming days new recommendations for directors of 'Ehpad
'.
