Erding - Hardly any road construction project is seen as as urgent as the expansion of the East Airport Tangent (FTO).
It is considered to be one of the busiest and most accident-prone state roads in all of Bavaria.
The paving of a third lane between the center and south of Erding has recently started.
Now an alliance has been formed that calls for further measures to be stopped, including the four-lane expansion from Erding to the airport interchanges and A 92. The plans for the Erdinger northern bypass ("ED 99") are also to be discontinued.
"Erdinger Alliance for Climate Protection and Land Saving" is the name of the initiative behind which the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD), the State Association for Bird Protection and the Association for Nature Conservation stand with the support of the Greens and the ÖDP.
Jakob Maier is also one of the founding members, but as an individual and not as the district chairman of the Bavarian Farmers' Association.
The alliance rejects the FTO expansion on the grounds that it is "an investment in land use and transport promotion based on completely outdated assumptions".
The FTO and the northern bypass would result in “enormous land consumption” - “Land that we urgently need for agriculture, recreation and nature,” says Maier.
The Bund Naturschutz wants the traffic turnaround: "We need a sustainable and forward-looking transport policy that not only promotes cars and trucks with internal combustion engines," said BN district chairwoman Gabriele Betzmeir.
The money should better be put into smarter mobility.
Uschi Schmidt-Hoensdorf from the State Association for Bird Protection sees the FTO and ED 99 as proof that “only clear legal provisions can curb land consumption.

The spokesmen of the alliance point out that both traffic arteries were primarily used to develop the airport.
The third runway will not be built.

The foundations for the new bridge at Stammham have been concreted, and the girders will arrive in May.
The new, longer crossing should be ready by July / August of this year, reports Thomas Jakob, spokesman for the Freising Road Construction Office.
Bushes and hedges were removed along the route itself.
“As planned, we want to start the third lane at the beginning of May,” said Jakob.

Oberdings Mayor Bernhard Mücke (CSU) is already looking at the time of the FTO closures in the first construction phase.
"That will be exciting again and especially Aufkirchen and Notzing hit", he said in the local council, alluding to the diversions.
The S-curve in Aufkirchen is likely to develop into the eye of a needle - there then Tempo 30 applies.
