Kaufland branch after the takeover of Real: Many are surprised by this sight

A Kaufland customer on Twitter is extremely surprised at the sight of a branch taken over by Real - and is not alone.

That has been clarifying bit by bit for months.

The Russian Real owner SCP had acquired the ailing hypermarket chain with its approximately 270 stores from Metro in order to break up and resell it.

The Bundeskartellamt already gave the green light in December for the takeover of up to 92 Real stores by the competitor Kaufland.

Some are closed, many should go to Globus or Edeka.

And then came back as improvised Kaufland branches.

A Twitter posting shows how improvised the whole thing is.

The photos are said to have been taken in Detmold (North Rhine-Westphalia) - which of course has not been confirmed, but there is also nothing to suggest a fake.

Kaufland relies on meter-long product lines in its Ex-Real branch

The pictures show what he means: meters of shelf space with Ü-eggs, Raffaello or coffee.

And the most impressive sight: meter by meter Nutella pallets next to each other!

The place had to be filled up somehow quickly.

“I forgot coffee, first walk back a kilometer,” writes the Kaufland customer, not without exaggeration.

The posting caused a sensation on Twitter - with almost 400 likes and 18 retweets in the first almost 24 hours.

“A bit like the Ikea principle,” says one user.

"Fierce" and "Fully beautiful" others.

Others feel reminded of stays abroad: "What a supermarket looks like in countries like the USA and Australia", "Now looks like the USA" and "Looks like Cuba."

Others prefer to joke: "Hahaha what?" And "Looks so cool as there is just a row everywhere, the poor employees who sort it out," they write.

And someone trusts the Germans' hamster-buying mentality: "Oh, a lockdown and the German hamster buyers will clear that too." Kaufland recently had a sausage recall.
