(CNN Spanish) ––

The president of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, said Thursday that he continues to work "as always" for the country and emphasized that his heart "is fine", given what he describes as "false news and misinformation."

This pronouncement on his official Twitter account occurs a day after the president himself reported on a radio station that he has to undergo medical examinations, since on his last trip to Washington he felt a strong pressure on his chest that led him to have a emergency medical check-up.

Moreno initially attributed the discomfort to "hard work."

«I was scared and my wife was more scared.

They called a cardiologist and he made me an evaluation and advised me to have tests ", revealed the president at the time.

Then, he gave more details about a similar history in his health.

«Sometimes I have had some pressure in my chest and some discomfort (…) that I presume could be the heart.

At some point I had an EKG done and it came out that I really had a lower heart problem.

But they told me it was not a major problem, at least in the short term, "Moreno said.

The 67-year-old president confirmed that he will undergo checkups and medical examinations in the coming days.

CNN contacted the government's Communication Secretariat, which indicated that the president's health condition "is fine."

Also that his results "are fine."

On February 23, on the radio link on Tuesdays, Lenín Moreno insisted that he will hand over power on May 24 to whoever the Electoral Council proclaims the winner in the second round of elections scheduled for April 11.

"I will deliver the presidential sash to the person that the National Electoral Council thus determines according to the vote count ... It is an obligation to hand over power to whoever corresponds," said the president.
