He was one of the first corona infected in the district.

A year ago, Manuel Riedmeier spent 23 days in the isolation ward at the Starnberg Clinic.

He told Starnberg Mercury how he is doing today.

Starnberg

- When in doubt, Manuel Riedmeier prefers to let his wife check the milk in the refrigerator.

"Whether it is bad or not," says the man from Starnberg, "I'd better not trust my nose." Almost exactly a year ago, Riedmeier was one of the first people in the district to deal with the corona virus after the cases at Webasto in Stockdorf had infected.

The whole thing happened in Misano / Italy, where the football coach was at the training camp with the youth of FT Starnberg 09.

He then spent 23 days in an isolation ward at the Starnberg Clinic, even though he had hardly any symptoms at the time.

Even today he is basically doing well.

Only the thing with the sense of smell and taste remains with him.

He says: "There is still very little going on."

Fortunately, the virus has not caused any other lasting problems.

Riedmeier feels fit and regularly rides longer distances on his bike.

“Everything is the same as before.” To be on the safe side, the 41-year-old even underwent a lung function test in December - with a positive result.

"The doctors haven't found anything that doesn't fit." Other Covid 19 patients are not so lucky, the so-called Long Covid will limit many for a long time to come.

When Riedmeier thinks back to around a year ago, it comes as no surprise, then, to his 23-day stay at the Starnberg Clinic.

A little more than three weeks alone on 20 square meters, without direct contact with other people, apart from the doctors and nurses.

“That wasn't entirely without it,” he says.

As he did then, he still does not understand why he had to stay in the isolation ward for so long and why he could not, as is usual with patients without symptoms, spend his quarantine at home.

"Since I was one of the first cases, everything was probably not completely cleared up," he says.

For Riedmeier it was just a matter of waiting, waiting and waiting again.

Only with the second negative corona test did he get his freedom back.

However, he does not want to blame the hospital staff.

“The doctors and nurses treated me very well.

They couldn't ignore the government's instructions either. ”He took it with humor and became a TV junkie during his stay.

"I haven't seen Hubert and Staller since then," says Riedmeier and laughs.

"I wasn't even tested for antibodies,"

There was no medical follow-up for him.

“I wasn't even tested for antibodies,” he says.

Accordingly, he assumes that he could contract Corona one more time.

As soon as he has the opportunity, Riedmeier would therefore like to be vaccinated.

“What has to be, has to be,” he says.

In order to support the Großhadern Clinic in researching all aspects of the virus, he had also offered to donate blood plasma.

"It said on the Internet that they were looking for people who had Corona and are already cured," says Riedmeier.

However, when the doctors only replied eight weeks after his offer and he also had to get all the documents from Starnberg himself, he finally waved it off.

"Then it obviously wasn't that urgent after all," he says.

"I also have a job that I have to take care of."

There, at the auto parts specialist ATD 5 Seen in Starnberg, Riedmeier is now back to his normal work.

“As soon as I was out of the hospital, it started again right away,” he says.

He did not experience any suspicious reactions from employees or customers.

"Nobody was particularly distant from me." In the meantime, it is nowhere near as unusual to become infected with Covid-19 than it was when he was diagnosed.

Riedmeier is therefore very pragmatic about the situation.

“We just have to live with this virus.” If he is allowed to choose what should be changed immediately, he doesn't have to think twice.

"Let the children play football again," emphasizes the U17 coach at FT Starnberg.

It's not just about the sporting aspect.

Social education is also neglected.

"For many, football is a small school of life."
