The "propagating events" are a real danger during this pandemic 23:22

(CNN Spanish) -

The contagion of coronavirus and vaccines against the disease continue to be the most frequent doubts of our audience.

In this episode, Dr. Huerta answers questions about covid-19 detection tests, vaccines and transmission.

Hello, I am Dr. Elmer Huerta and this is your daily dose of information about the new coronavirus.

Information that we hope will be useful to take care of your health and that of your family.

Today we will answer some questions that we have been asked on our Twitter account @DrHuerta.

Questions about the coronavirus vaccine

A consultation of elmer people with cancer, a non-hogking lymphoma and a mother in remission one 8 and another 5. can be vaccinated for covid 19.

- Dennis M. Leon (@ DennisMLeon2) March 4, 2021

advertising

Hi Dennis.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States specify that people with cancer are at high risk of complications from coronavirus.

Therefore these people must be vaccinated to be protected.

@drhuerta In the episode of January 13, he comments on what was known so far about various Chinese vaccines.

Vaccination recently started in my country and I understand that it includes Sinovac.

Is there more up-to-date evidence of such a vaccine?

Thanks, Máximo.e.

- Máximo E. Pérez M. (@maximoeperezm) March 4, 2021

Hello Maximo.

The Sinovac vaccine is one of the vaccines whose efficacy is under discussion.

While in Brazil the vaccine achieved an efficacy of 50.38%, in Turkey an efficacy of 83.5% was recently reported.

Despite this difference in efficacy in preventing symptomatic disease, the vaccine has shown very good efficacy in preventing severe disease that leads to hospitalization.

In the Turkish study, for example, of more than 10,000 participants, no trial volunteers who received the vaccine were hospitalized, compared to six in the placebo group.

A question for the podcast:

What really is that the Pfaiser and Moderna vaccines are not suitable for asthmatics?

- Alejandra Carmona (@FITNESS_MEDUSA) March 3, 2021

Hi Alejandra.

That is not true.

The only contraindication that exists to the use of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in the United States is a history of a severe allergic reaction after a previous dose of a messenger RNA vaccine or any of its components, for example, polyethylene glycol or polysorbate.

@drhuerta what vaccine is appropriate for a person who has ulcerative colitis and another lupus.

Atte

- Patricia Delionardis (@PDelionardis) March 3, 2021

Hi Patricia.

It is important to understand that vaccines are not recommended based on the type of illness that people have.

Remember that people with these conditions may have a higher risk of complications, so they can receive any of the vaccines.

So far all protect against severe illness, hospitalization and death.

doctor a consultation to take some medicine like Glucophage before getting vaccinated is it good or I can not take the medicine?

- Albert Saenz (@ AlbertSaenz18) February 28, 2021

Hi Albert.

In general, there are no contraindications related to the use of a drug and the use of a vaccine.

As always, your doctor has the last word.

@drhuerta Good evening doctor.

I would like to ask you if you recommend vaccination with the Chinese sinopharm vaccine in the case that you have been diagnosed positive for covid 19 and have had pneumonia 15 to 20 days ago.

Thanks

- Vanessa Zenteno (@ VanessaZenteno6) February 27, 2021

Hello Vanessa.

Of course.

The CDC says that people who have already overcome the coronavirus can receive the vaccine at any time after their recovery.

@drhuerta Dr. Is there any recommendation for the application of a vaccine for an 81-year-old woman who underwent a masectomy in November 2009, has osteoporosis and hypertension controlled with drugs?

What would be the best?

or the least indicated?

Thanks and regards.

- RmroGlez (@GlezRmro) March 4, 2021

Of course, Ramiro.

Remember that people with a history of cancer and high blood pressure (not osteoporosis) have a higher risk of being complicated by coronavirus and, therefore, should be protected with vaccination.

Questions about the contagion of covid-19

@drhuerta If I am in an outdoor meeting with six people and we are at a distance of 2 meters, we should all wear the mask, I am 78 years old

- Candy Taboada (@CandyTaboada) March 3, 2021

Hi Candy.

The truth is that I don't think the risk of contagion is great.

First, they are outdoors, and second, they are separate.

In abundance of caution, perhaps they could further decrease the risk by separating ten feet away.

Just make sure that doesn't cause you to have to yell to communicate because yelling causes large amounts of aerosols to be produced.

@drhuerta good trades doctor Huerta, a query, is it feasible to play sports in these times of pandemic ?, specifically tennis.

Can I do it? Your comments would help me a lot.

- Juanito (@JuanRBQ) March 3, 2021

Hi Juanito.

Of course it is possible.

What's more, I can tell you that it is very important to do physical activity.

The important thing is to choose an activity that is very low risk of contagion.

Tennis is a relatively low-risk sport, and it is recommended that even after the game, distance is maintained and good hand hygiene is practiced.

@mabel_huertas a query for dr.

@drhuerta if I have had direct contact with a person who has tested positive after how many days should I take the discard test and what test should be.

Thanks

- KAREN NUÑEZ (@ kaliv979) March 1, 2021

The CDC recommends two options.

One is to isolate yourself for 10 days, to see if any symptoms appear.

The second is that you isolate yourself anyway, but do a molecular PCR test on the seventh day, and if this is negative, you can resume your routines.

@drhuerta good afternoon Dr. My query is directed towards contagion if it can occur in the streets where one crosses a person every 3 minutes and if the virus is in the air for how long on this type of route

- Máximo Heredia Pinto (@MximoHerediaPin) March 1, 2021

Hello Maximo.

Everything is possible in life, but statistically speaking, it is highly unlikely.

First of all, they are in the open air, and while you don't tell me how close the two people are, it is unlikely that if they cross paths they will be too close together for contagion to occur.

Also, if both are wearing masks, the probability is much lower.

@drhuerta How long does the Sinopharm vaccine applied in Peru take to take effect?

- Vladimir Flores (@vladiflores) March 2, 2021

Hello Vladimir.

In general, all vaccines that require two doses - such as Sinopharm - provide full protection two weeks after receiving the second dose.

@drhuerta good morning Dr., what is the possibility of having caught COVID having done a spirometry even using a disposable mouthpiece, having started the symptoms 4 days later.

Blessings

- CÉSAR RIOS (@Neocriosc) February 28, 2021

Hi Cesar.

Sure you do, spirometry - which is a lung function test in which the patient blows through a tube - can create a lot of aerosols.

It is a cause of contagion.

Other questions from the audience

Dr Huerta, specialists, including those of the WHO, have said contradictory things since the pandemic was declared: "Use a mask", "It is not the solution to stop the pandemic", "Clean the surfaces", "It is not necessary ".

It is not uncommon for the population to be confused.

- Lislie Astorga (@liss_astorga) March 1, 2021

Hi Lislie.

You are absolutely right and this had already happened before the pandemic, when some studies said that eggs or coffee were harmful one day and after a few months, that they were not.

Unfortunately that is the nature of science, and in the case of covid-19, the matter is complicated because the infection and the virus are completely new and it takes time to develop a robust body of knowledge.

What is recommended is to be attentive to media that provide the context of the news, and that can explain the reason for the changes.

Doctor help me please.

At night my saturation reaches 93. It does not let sleep.

I wake up and it goes up to 97.

- Elmer7779 (@ elmer7779) February 28, 2021

Hi Elmer.

Do not worry.

It is normal for people to have mild oxygen desaturation levels when sleeping.

The numbers you provide us are within the range of what is expected during sleep.
