A new British study warned that infection with the Corona virus can lead to swelling of the salivary glands in the mouth.
According to the study published by the Journal of Dental Research GDR, researchers studied 122 patients with Covid 19 and found that more than eight out of ten patients suffer from problems in the face or mouth as a result of infection and the most common is swelling of the salivary glands, which affected 43 percent Of patients.
The study also found that 93 percent of patients with swollen salivary glands received antibiotics while in hospital, which greatly increased the risk of developing swollen glands.
The researchers explained that the residual damage in the oral cavity continues in the vast majority of patients most affected until after clinical recovery, noting that the oral cavity is a preferential target for Covid 19 infection.
