The distribution of the vaccine still leaves something to be desired.

How is the current situation in Upper Bavaria?

We provide answers to important questions.

Wolfratshausen - The Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district could have vaccinated more people * this week - if it had had more vaccine.

Deliveries and orders are always made on a weekly basis, which means that subsequent deliveries at short notice are usually not possible.

Because the vaccine is distributed throughout Bavaria according to a detailed system.

How is the vaccine distributed to the counties?

Bavaria gets the vaccination doses * from the federal government, so far it was a total of 1.6 million.

83 percent of them have already been vaccinated or delivered.

98,000 vaccination doses are held back in the central warehouses for the second vaccination in order to be able to compensate for fluctuations in delivery.

Most of these are the Biontech and Moderna vaccines.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently no delivery failures.

The further distribution of the vaccination doses to the districts takes place according to the proportion of the population.

The coordinating vaccination center in each administrative district is responsible for this.

Eight people are responsible for this in Upper Bavaria, explains spokesman Wolfgang Rupp.

They inform the district offices how many vaccine doses they can receive for the coming week.

What options do the districts have to adapt the requirements?

The counties are giving feedback to the government as to whether they want to get the full amount of vaccine or just can vaccinate less this week *.

"That depends, for example, on the capacities in the vaccination centers," explains Rupp.

The Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen vaccination center, for example, has a capacity for 1000 vaccinations per day from mid-March.

The vaccine is currently only enough for 400 a day, explains manager Maximilian Pfandl.

Short-term reorders (like this week) are only possible to a limited extent, explains Rupp.

However, the districts can register special needs in advance - for example, if they have many retirement homes or large clinics.

The coordination office can redistribute this because not all districts always call up the maximum available vaccine.

In the long term, this will be balanced out again, explains Rupp.

Basically, the weekly amount of vaccine does not fluctuate much, says the vaccination center manager Pfandl.

"The delivery quantities have increased somewhat in the past few weeks."

How are the three available vaccines distributed?

The quantities that the counties receive from the three available vaccines Biontech, Astrazeneca and Moderna are also based on the proportion of the population.

No distinction is made between age groups.

This means: A district in which fewer seniors live will no longer receive Astrazeneca vaccine, which was previously only approved for under-65s.

"So far it has not been possible to react to the age structure," explains Rupp.

That is conceivable if the vaccine quantities increase overall.

Government spokesman Rupp emphasizes that the districts are also calling up the Astrazeneca vaccine that is offered.

"There are no large quantities left lying around." Pfandl confirms this for his district as well.

"With us everything is vaccinated." Basically, however, the skepticism towards Astrazeneca is greater than with other vaccines, he reports.

This is also proven by the Bavaria-wide figures.

321,600 Astrazeneca vaccination doses were delivered, but so far only 104,941 have been vaccinated.

Why are the vaccination rates so different from district to district?

In Erding, 4.4 percent of citizens received the first vaccination, in Dachau it was 6.8 percent.

Why are there specific vaccination centers for police officers?

This should relieve the other vaccination centers.

The police medical service vaccinates 44,000 law enforcement and administration officers at twelve locations in Bavaria.
