The Krailling volunteer fire brigade is happy to have its first own turntable ladder.

The vehicle was purchased a few weeks ago following a corresponding decision by the Kraillinger municipal council.

The fire fighters had developed a completely new vehicle concept for this.

Krailling -

Both in the KIM industrial area and in Krailling itself there are some buildings that are so high that, according to the legal provisions, it is absolutely necessary to reserve a fire brigade turntable ladder in order to be able to save people in the event of a fire.

So far, the Kraillinger fire brigade did not have its own turntable ladder and managed to have the Planegger fire brigade deploy its ladder when the situation was over.

This was always a great effort.

"The question always arose as to whether the ladder of the Planegger fire brigade is not actually needed", explains Franz Wolfrum, managing director of the Kraillinger town hall - and what happens if this is the case.

New vehicle concept developed

The fire brigade and the community had therefore had the desire and plan to end this "condition" for a long time.

The fire fighters worked out a new vehicle concept that provided for the purchase of a used, completely overhauled turntable ladder while at the same time selling the aerial work platform.

The ladder was bought used and overhauled because this is completely sufficient for the Kraillinger's purposes and such a ladder can be used for a long time, but at the same time it saves a lot of money: "A new turntable ladder would have cost 750,000 to 1 million euros," explains Franz Wolfrum .

For the used ladder, however, only the approval of a budget of 170,000 euros was necessary.

This already includes the high five-digit proceeds from the sale of the aerial work platform.

“But in the end we will stay below this limit,” says Wolfrum.

Retractable ladder is 30 meters long

The vehicle came from a company in Kandel near Karlsruhe that specializes in such general overhauls.

The frame of the ladder, which has a normal length of around 30 meters, comes from Mercedes, the superstructure from the company Metz.

At about the same time as the leaders, the Kraillinger fire fighters also received a new emergency fire extinguishing group vehicle (HLF) as an exchange for another defective emergency vehicle.

The men and women of the Kraillinger fire brigade are now very happy to be able to better guarantee “the safety of citizens” with the new turntable ladder and to finally be able to fully meet the legal requirements, says the first commander Marco Zickler in an interview with Merkur.

The fire fighters are currently training all comrades to use the turntable ladder.

“Since it is the very first turntable ladder in Krailling, we have to start from scratch.

Due to the corona, we can only conduct the training in small groups and ideally outside, ”explains Commander Zickler.

It will therefore take until the end of July or the beginning of August for the turntable ladder to be used on a regular basis.

According to Mayor Rudolph Haux, the official inauguration and presentation of the vehicle is planned for March if possible.

"I am very pleased that we were able to purchase the ladder at a very affordable price and that our fire brigade can now react appropriately to all operations," says Rudolph Haux.
