Freising

- What should the planned “Freising school campus” look like one day?

The project was presented at a digital citizens' forum.

The questions from the 60 citizens who had logged in surprisingly failed to materialize.

The competition

The architectural ideas competition for the campus only ended a few days ago: ten plans for the largest current building project in the district were able to convince an expert jury.

From an open row of buildings to more complex parent houses, everything is represented in the ideas to redesign the schools located there as a single unit, i.e. into a perceptible campus with synergy effects.

The nuances of the architects are multi-faceted: whether it is a green boulevard on Wippenhauser Straße or a spacious bus station enhanced by trees with a pleasant atmosphere.

The place should not only invite you to learn, but also to linger, which could be achieved, for example, by including the Wippenhauser trench as a relaxation path by the water.

However, approaches to solving the traffic problem were also mandatory in the ideas competition - whether by widening the road or by rerouting individual traffic.

Precisely because the project is so extensive, jury member and architect Peter Scheller judged the cooperation between the city and the district to be an “intelligent process”.

Traffic

The question of reducing traffic remains a tricky one, however: one of the architects' ideas to build a cycle path on Wippenhauser Graben could quickly fail due to the partial overbuilding there.

The traffic issue on Wippenhauser Straße is not new, as Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher emphasized, but at the same time it is probably the most elementary thing for school planning.

According to Eschenbacher, traffic calming in the campus area is a main focus of all the plans presented - but how this can be achieved is still pending.

The variants

However, according to the mayor, it would by no means be possible to completely open the road for traffic - because the buses must definitely be able to drive.

However, it is advantageous, according to Eschenbacher, that a lot can be intercepted by the western bypass.

Whether there will be bypasses for individual traffic or new additional bike paths on other roads, for example on Goldberg, is still in the stars.

In this regard, the city architect Barbara Schelle also had to admit: “The traffic planning gives us the most headaches!” So it was not surprising that the few questions from the more than 60 citizens who were connected were all about the narrow Wippenhauser Straße, such as “Was the approachability schools considered from the west ”or“ How does a traffic-calmed part affect the relocation? ”

Further steps

The ten winners are now taking part in the design competition, which will be over by summer.

From the idea part, and Josef Mittertrainer, who is responsible for the competition management, emphasized that, of course, not everything could be implemented as planned.

His opinion: "We now need openness and robustness!" For example, according to Schelle, the bed of the Wippenhauser Graben often does not carry any water at all - so, in her opinion, this project should not be "romanticized".

Irrespective of this, the building project is an extremely important part of the city, emphasized District Administrator Helmut Petz in the live link from the Freising town hall - in addition to the high urban planning requirements, the school requirements should of course also be taken into account.

Eschenbacher was also extremely enthusiastic: In his opinion, the game between residential development and school campus is quite exciting.

Eschenbacher judged the cooperation with the district as a school expenditure provider to be very important in order to set up a sustainable campus.

And this, according to the district administrator's wish, should be able to convince even after decades.
