The end of the third runway at the airport: This is what Freising's district greens want.

A resolution in the district council has now been passed unanimously.

Freising

- For the Freising district parliamentary group of the Greens, the third runway at Munich airport must now finally come to an end - this "sword of Damocles" that hangs over the region.

On Thursday, therefore, their resolution "Final end for the third runway" was unanimously passed in the district committee for planning, environment, tourism, district development and infrastructure.

The city of Freising needs binding planning security

Of course, it is not the district that is responsible for the burial of the third runway, but the state parliament.

But right now is the right time for Franz Heilmeier (Greens) to show a clear edge again.

In addition, he hopes for further signals from the various camps, then, in his opinion, things would not look so bad that the annoying topic would finally be off the table.

The city of Freising must finally be able to have binding planning security for the future.

And that would only be possible with the long overdue decision against building another runway.

Johann Stegmair (CSU) emphasized that he was basically not a great friend of resolutions for matters outside of his or her jurisdiction, but he definitely wanted to go along with them.

Because the district CSU, according to Stegmair, was always against this third railway.

For him, however, it is questionable whether the runway could be removed so easily from the existing planning approval decision: "There are some things attached to it." For Peter Warlimont (SPD), it would be particularly desirable that the burden of a possible further runway would finally be taken by the citizens.

The third is dead - she must now be buried with dignity!

District Administrator Helmut Petz

District Administrator Helmut Petz made it short and sweet: "The third one is dead - she must now be buried with decency!" However, Petz also made it clear: That should not be lumped together with the airport per se.

According to the district administrator, the airport is extremely important as a “job engine” and guarantees prosperity for the district.

But the third “just doesn't work”, in his opinion it is completely nonsensical to build something that is not needed.

According to his knowledge, the planning approval decision, which includes the third runway, is valid until 2025/26 - then it would "disappear from the scene" anyway.

The district administrator does not believe that the start of construction of the S-Bahn tunnel, which can also be found in this planning approval decision, has shortened the deadline and that the major project is still in the balance for longer.

For Petz it would have been enough if the decision-makers had clearly and clearly refrained from any further construction plans by means of a declaration.

After all, a change procedure is time-consuming and takes a long time.

By then, in his opinion, the whole thing could have taken care of itself.

For Heilmeier, however, concessions are no longer enough: "It has to be binding."

Clear words in the resolution

The Green District Association therefore finds clear words in the resolution: "The FMG and its shareholders are requested to appeal to the government of Upper Bavaria, as the planning approval authority, that the plan approval decision is changed and the third runway is canceled."

The committee passed the resolution unanimously.

This also includes: "District Administrator Helmut Petz is commissioned to take this issue to the FMG and its shareholders offensively."

Richard Lorenz

The project divides.

The third runway has been causing unrest in the districts of Munich Airport since 2005.
