When the world's largest parliament was supposed to meet a year ago, China was out of joint.
The corona pandemic broke out in winter, first the city of Wuhan, then the province of Hubei, then other regions were cordoned off.
Beijing postponed the National People's Congress, which usually met at the beginning of March, and caught up with it ten weeks later, for the first time in decades.
This year, China is returning to its usual rhythm: the Political Consultative Conference met on Thursday, and the People's Congress on Friday morning - 2,907 members of the Chinese show parliament, confirming decisions taken by the Communist Party's leadership.
It is the most important annual event on China's political calendar, half a must for the establishment, half folklore and propaganda show.
But it is also always an occasion from which conclusions can be drawn about where the CCP intends to steer - economically, politically and militarily.
