In Mar-a-Lago he is the greatest.
When he appears on the veranda of his private club in Palm Beach in the evening, the guests receive him with standing ovations.
He then wanders from table to table, greets friends and asks them whether the food is tasty.
After all, he always sits down in the same place to eat the same dinner: shrimp cocktail, steak, french fries, diet coke.
"Mar-a-Lago is Donald Trump's paradise," says Laurence Leamer, a writer who lives not far from the club on the beach promenade and has often seen the dinner scene.
"He's the King of Palm Beach."
Leamer stands on his roof terrace, his gaze extends over tiled roofs, palm trees, the sea.
He has lived in this idyll since 1995 and knows a lot of people in the area.
He has written 18 books, best known for his well-meaning biographies about the Kennedys and the Ronald Reagan family.
His last work appeared two years ago: "Mar-a-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump's Presidential Palace" - behind the mighty gates of Trump's palace.
Leamer has seen the rise and fall of the private club up close.
