The National Risk Management Service of Ecuador reported that five western provinces of the country are being affected by the ash fall from the Sangay volcano, which, according to a report from the Geophysical Institute, released a 4-kilometer ash column over the level of the crater.
According to the Risk Management Service, the provinces where ashfall has been reported are: Chimborazo, Guayas, Los Ríos, Bolívar and Cañar.
It warns that the province of Santa Elena could also be affected by the ash fall.

The Emergency Operations Committee was activated in the Chimborazo province to assess the situation and coordinate with other institutions.
The director of the Risk Management Service, Rommel Salazar, asked citizens to maintain precautionary measures.

The institution also asks citizens to remain calm, wear a mask and glasses to avoid damage to the respiratory tract and eyes.
