A fire broke out in a tenement building in Yau Ma Tei, and a man fell dead in a cubicle.

At 5:13 am on Saturday (6th), a unit on the 1st floor of Po Cheung Building, 260 Reclamation Street caught fire. The firefighter unit dispatched a 2-pipe and 2-breathing apparatus team to fight the fire and went to the gate of the "panel room" A man was found. He fell on the ground and was confirmed dead at the scene. The burning unit was also severely burned.

Firefighters rescued 47 residents and 17 others evacuated by themselves, including a firefighter who injured his right foot. He has been discharged from the hospital.

Assistant District Chief of Fire Services (Kowloon West) Cai Weifeng said that at 5:13 in the morning, the Fire Department received a report that a fire broke out in a unit on the first floor of the Baoxiang Building at No. 260 Reclamation Street.

Fire-fighting vehicles arrived at the scene at 5:17. The personnel were present to make 3 operational deployments, including the fire fighting and operation work of the burning unit, the rescue of the periphery of the reclaimed street, and the search and rescue work of the unit that caused the accident.

The fire was generally put out at about 6.32 am.

Senior Ambulance Officer on Duty (Hong Kong and Kowloon) Cui Mingran pointed out that the injured at the scene included 6 men and 5 women who were unwell after inhaling smoke.

Firefighters rescued 47 residents and 17 others evacuated by themselves. One firefighter injured his right foot. He has been discharged from the hospital.

During the operation, the Fire Services Department dispatched 102 firefighters and ambulances, 19 fire trucks and 10 ambulances, and dispatched a 2-pipe 2-breathing apparatus team to the fire unit to fight the fire.

Firefighters found a man inside the unit. He was confirmed dead at the scene.

Cai Weifeng pointed out that the male deceased was found lying at the door of the "panel room". When he was found, he had no response.

The burning unit was severely burned and the area was about 9 meters by 5 meters.

It is reported that the "panel rooms" in the units are not subdivided to the top, and the units are separated by panels. The number of "panel rooms" and the materials used are still subject to investigation.

Cai Weifeng stated that the Shangzhi Building was completed in 1964 and used fire-fighting equipment with a "dry hose system".

Since the fire unit was on the first floor, the firefighting system did not use the "dry hose system" to fight the fire.

The dry pipe system is a "through" water pipe in the building. Usually, the pipe has no water source. When necessary, firefighters will connect the water source and use it for fire fighting.

According to the data, the "dry hose system" has a vertical device with a standard water outlet, which can be used for the water pumps of fire trucks. The water inlets of these systems provide water to all floors of buildings for fire fighting purposes.
