In the early morning of today (6th), one of the units on the first floor of a nine-storey tenement building on Xin Reclamation Street caught fire. The whole building was full of smoke and more than 60 residents escaped in a hurry.
Firefighters raised the ladder to rescue multiple residents and found a male body in the building's stairs.
In the fire, 13 people were injured and sent to hospital, including one unwell firefighter.
A resident of a building woke up from his sleep, opened the bedroom door and saw smoke filled, immediately closed the door and asked the firefighter downstairs for help.
Other residents said that the building's fire fighting system was not effective when the fire broke out, and described it as "No emergency signal".

After that, he opened the bedroom door and found that the living room was full of heavy smoke.
Since Huang Sheng could not leave the bedroom, he called other family members in the same room to remind them not to leave the bedroom.
Huang Sheng then opened the window and called the firefighters downstairs for help, and the firefighters told them to seal the door gap with a wet towel and wait for rescue.
About half an hour later, firefighters arrived and evacuated the six members of Huangsheng's family.
Huang Sheng said that during the evacuation, he saw that the stairs of the building were already covered with water and fire hoses.
It is understood that the fire units have sub-divided units. Huang Sheng said that 8 of the 10 units in the building will be used as sub-divided rentals.
Another resident, Airah, said that he was sleeping at the time of the incident, and then he smelt a scent of burning glue, so he hurried to escape.
The fire unit was fierce.
Airah said that when the fire broke out, he found that there was no light in the building and no alarm bell, "No emergency signal."
