Despite the bad weather, there is a lot of activity on the main square in Peiting on Friday morning.

Corona-compliant customers cavort between the various stalls of the farmers' market: at a distance and wearing FFP2 masks.

- As usual, the offer on the market is colorful and varied: fresh fruit and vegetables, sausage, bread, fish, cheese and all kinds of other delicacies can be purchased there.

But there are also salves, candles and schnapps to buy.

New this year is a stand with products from the Italian region of Umbria.

Giorgia Stentella helps sell olive oil, pasta and sauces.

The Italian only moved to Bavaria six months ago and has lived with the Hasselmann family in the village since then.

She originally comes from Calvi, Peiting's twin town.

Stentella established contact with various Umbrian shops, and that's how the Italian goods finally came to Peiting.

The local Prielmeier couple are celebrating another premiere: They are represented at the farmers' market for the first time and sell their self-made honey.

“We have around 20 to 25 bee colonies,” says Markus Prielmeier.

He and his wife took over the stand from Wolfgang Turansky.

And a rolling fruit and vegetable car is also new at the popular monthly market.

It belongs to Roland Faber, who is thoroughly satisfied with today's response: “It's nice that people accept the goods,” he says.

"That's how it should be."

It is easy to see from the sales counters that customers are satisfied as always.

Much has already been sold out, and Thomas Leinauer's fish stand has even been withdrawn.

“All the fish were gone within just 45 minutes,” says Herwig Skalitza.

For almost 30 years he has been organizing the farmers' market together with Pankratia Holl.

“The market just has a loyal clientele,” he adds.

The next market takes place on the morning of April 1st (Maundy Thursday).
