Lyon: urban violence continues, several vehicles set on fire

For the third night in a row, the Lyon metropolitan area is plagued by urban violence. Gérald Darmanin Minister of the Interior announced the dispatch of 200 additional police and gendarmes.


After La Duchère, Rillieux-la-Pape, here is Bron, another town in Greater Lyon which is the scene of urban violence.

A police vehicle was targeted by a group of young people while several vehicles were set on fire.

On the images of a video shared by the union of police commissioners, we can see a group of individuals attacking a police vehicle without knowing if the police are inside.

On other videos shared by Radio Scoop on social networks, we can see a burning police vehicle.

It all started Thursday evening in the district of La Duchère in Lyon after a serious scooter accident that occurred the day before in the same district, the police having been accused by some residents of being involved.

13 years old and without a helmet, the driver of the vehicle is still hospitalized and his vital prognosis still engaged according to the town hall.

Two hundred police officers and gendarmes as reinforcements

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has announced he is sending him to reinforce 200 police officers and gendarmes in the Lyon metropolitan area, which has been experiencing significant urban violence for a few days.

Thirteen vehicles were set on fire and at least six people arrested Friday evening March 5 in Rillieux-la-Pape, in the suburbs of Lyon, the day after urban violence in the sensitive district of La Duchère in Lyon, we learned from corroborating sources.

Nine young people released, three referred on Saturday

Nine of the twelve young people arrested Thursday evening in Lyon after urban violence in the sensitive district of La Duchère were released Friday "for

lack of elements

", while three others remained in police custody before their deferral on Saturday, indicated the parquet.

The extension of police custody concerns an adult for "

violence with a weapon on a person holding public authority (throwing projectiles) and participation in a group with a view to committing violence or degradation

", and two minors aged 16 and over. 14 years old.

They will be presented to a children's judge, the first for the same reasons as the young adult, the second "

for possession of a mortar fireworks display
