On Wednesday and Thursday (4th and 5th), officers from the Executive and Control Team of the New Territories North Region's Department of Transportation launched a "quick" operation against illegal trucks, including overweight and unstable cargo.

During the operation, police officers intercepted 31 light goods vehicles, 19 medium goods vehicles and 3 heavy goods vehicles.

The police issued 48 fixed penalty notices, 3 summons and 2 verbal warnings, including being overweight, using mobile phones or other telecommunications equipment when the car was moving, not displaying, lighting up or installing the vehicle registration number, etc.

The police also arrested a 38-year-old male driver during the operation, suspected of owing a fine.

In addition, a 34-year-old male driver was arrested on suspicion of driving an unregistered vehicle and using a vehicle without third party insurance.

The police stated that they would continue to pay attention to the overweight trucks and strengthen law enforcement.

The police reiterated that overweight trucks would damage the road and put heavy pressure on the tires, reducing the stability of the driving vehicle.

Excessive load will also affect the braking system of the vehicle, which is more likely to endanger the safety of other road users and cause serious traffic accidents.
