An earthquake measuring 5.6 degrees on the Richter scale struck today 217 km northeast of Gisborne, New Zealand, without any injuries reported.

The US Geological Survey stated that the quake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers and its center was located at 37,1797,1797 degrees south latitude and 179,6403 degrees east longitude.

New Zealand is located in a seismically active region in the Pacific Ocean known as the Ring of Fire.
