The Economics Committee today (Sunday) approved a regulation that requires the installation of a warning system against forgetting children in any vehicle transporting children under the age of 4. The regulation will take effect this summer.

In light of the average price of the existing systems on the market, the expected cost for parents and drivers is several thousand shekels.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Transportation's announcement comes a week after the Knesset's Economics Committee, which includes the Road Safety Subcommittee, pressured the Ministry of Transportation to adapt once and for all the regulations to prevent children from forgetting vehicles and stop procrastination.

According to an installation approved as a temporary order, any driver of a private or commercial vehicle up to 3.5 tons will be required to install the forget-me-not system.

The system will be installed by the vehicle manufacturers during the manufacturing process, by a licensed installer at the request of the vehicle owner, or by the vehicle owner's initiative and equipping the system, similar to a baby seat, which meets transportation regulations in accordance with EU, US or Canadian regulations.

The group's office stated that there would be an opportunity for competition to lower prices.

The fine for violators: a report of NIS 250, 4 mandatory points and registration of a criminal offense

A statement from the Ministry of Transportation today stated that Minister of Transportation Miri Regev "found" a solution, and adjusted the preparation of the installation, and therefore from August 1, 2021, the Transportation of a Child Under 4 Act will be prohibited in all vehicles without such a warning system.

According to the minister, "After years of tragic deaths I have been led to find a solution to the tragic tragedies. After the staff work of all parties, regulations will be implemented. Already this summer all vehicles will be required to install a system and thus save children's lives."

By the way, enforcement of the installation will begin in January 2022. Anyone who does not install and is caught driving a minor under the age of 4 without the system will be fined NIS 250 and four mandatory points for the driver and will be considered a criminal offense.

Also a safety system that will not be in the standard and will be installed by an installer will result in a criminal offense on the part of the installer.

The Ministry of Transportation added that inquiries had been received from about 20 companies and entrepreneurs offering systems.

In Italy, by the way, according to which the installation is based, there are more than ten system manufacturers, and since January, a benefit has been given to importers who offer the system in new cars.

As stated last week, the Economics Committee discussed the issue, but no decision was made after the chairman, MK Yaakov Margi of Shas, decided not to hold a vote after representatives of the Ministry of Transportation asked to change the regulations, but the appropriate wording was not submitted for discussion today. And she was approved.
