The Urban Greening and Tree Management Working Group of the Sham Shui Po District Council invited the Changchun Society to co-organize the "Sham Shui Po District Major Roadside Tree Survey and Community Participation Workshop" through an open tender in June last year to explore the tree management problems faced by the community and propose improvements It is recommended to promote tree knowledge to the public.

The Changchun News Agency conducted a survey of 2,388 trees in the area in February this year, which was completed at the beginning of this month.

Su Guoxian, Director of Changchun Club, pointed out that more than 70% of the trees in the area are semi-mature to mature trees (diameter at breast height ranging from 100 mm to 1000 mm, and about 20% are newly planted trees). It was found that the general health and structural conditions of the trees in the area are mostly only average. Although no trees with immediate danger and serious problems were found, trees with poor health accounted for 5.59% and trees with poor structure accounted for 3.85%. The main reasons were insufficient sunlight, over-density and improper pruning.

Su Guoxian said that some long-standing problems on the tree, such as tree cards embedded in the tree body, supporting devices, and tree holes that hinder growth, have not been resolved. Nursing parties often use passive methods such as pruning. Only deal with the branches that cause obstruction.

He suggested that sustainable urban forests should be used to provide sustainable benefits to the Sham Shui Po community and to set measurable goals, such as the percentage of trees with good health and structure, and the pursuit of quality rather than quantity.

In addition, it is necessary to formulate planting strategies for different periods, including reducing the density, considering the size of the mature tree species and other pre-planting issues, proposing appropriate planting methods to allow the trees to develop a healthier structure from an early age, and in terms of daily maintenance, Consider the overall condition of the trees, and find and solve the growth problems as early as possible to conserve valuable trees.

Collaborating with the public, such as education, consultation, and participation, can also increase transparency and citizens' sense of belonging.

Residents have the ability to choose tree species to achieve the "punch-in" fever

Sham Shui Po District Councillor and Chairman of the Urban Greening and Tree Management Group Yuen Hai-man recalled that the front wind had blown down many trees in the community over the past few years, which made many people feel a pity. At that time, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department accepted his opinion and let the public choose to replant on Sham Shing Road. After considering the characteristics of the tree, the residents chose the yellow-flowered Campanulaceae. Until recently, the yellow-flowered Campanulaceae was in full bloom, attracting the attention of many residents and setting off a "check-in" craze.

Yuan also pointed out that he will follow up the health status of the trees in the investigation and also hopes to educate the public about tree protection.
