At the end of 2020, 4,677,700 women lived in Israel, of whom about 27% were aged 14-0, about 60% were aged 15-64, and about 13% were aged 65 and over.

This is according to a collection of data on the occasion of International Women's Day 2021.

At the end of 2018, 50.4% of women among 29-25 year olds in the Jewish and other population were married, compared with 73% of Arab women in this age group.

In 2008, the figure was 53.8% among Jews and others, and 80.7% among Arab women.

Among girls aged 49-45, 10% of the women in the Jewish population and others were single, compared with 11.5% of the Arab women.

For comparison, a decade ago, in 2008, the figure was 6.3% among Jewish women and others and 11.3% among Arab women.

Until the age of 49-45, the rate of Arab single women is lower than that of Jewish women, and from the age of 49-45, there is a trend of reversal and the rate of Jewish women is lower.

It can be seen that Arab women marry at an earlier age than Jewish women, but the proportion of single Arab women is higher at the end of the fertile age.

The survey data also show that the proportion of divorced women is higher than the proportion of divorced men in all age groups.

This condition is mainly due to the tendency of men to marry faster than women after divorce.

Thus, for example, at the end of 2018 the proportion of divorced women aged 39-35 was 8% compared to 5% of men.

At the age of 44-40, the proportion of divorced women was 12.4%, compared with 8% of men;

At the age of 49-45, the proportion of women was 16.4%, compared with 11.4% of men;

And at the age of 54-50 the proportion of women was 18.4% compared to 13.7% of men.

The share of women aged 65 and over in the total female population is 13.2%, compared with 10.7% among men.

The high proportion of women among those aged 65 and over is mainly due to a higher life expectancy than that of men.

Among those aged 65 and over, the proportion of widowed women was 34.5%, compared with 9.5% among men.

For comparison, a decade ago, in 2008, the figure was 48.3% among women, and 14.0% among men.

49,410 women were married in 2018. 44,051 of them, about 89%, were married for the first time.

The average age of women who first married was 24.9, compared with 24.7 years in 2008.

Among Jewish women, this is 25.7.

15,605 women divorced in 2018. The average age of women at the time of divorce was 39.3, compared to 38.1 years in 2008.

The average age of women at the time of divorce among Jewish women is 40.9, 39.8 among Christians;

35.7 among Druze, and 31.5 among Muslims.

At the same time, the birth rate in Israel is considered high.

The average number of children a woman in Israel is expected to give birth to during her lifetime is 3.01 children, higher than the average in OECD countries, where the number is 1.6.

About 177.5 thousand women gave birth during 2019, of which 28.7% women gave birth to their first child, 26.1% gave birth to their second child, and 45.2% - their third child or older.

High birth rate in Israel

In 2019, the average age of women who gave birth to their first child rose from 25.7 in the early 2000s to 27.7 in 2019. 6.1% of all babies born to Jewish women in 2019 were single women, twice as many since 2000.
