"The sadness of COVID-19 is not an ordinary sadness," says Dr. Nasio. According to their perspective, this disorder is characterized by three factors

(CNN Spanish) -

Dr. Juan David Nasio is considered one of the most prominent experts in Lacanian psychoanalysis.

From a young age he had the opportunity to work with Jacques Lacan himself in Paris.

As a result of his observations and the study of several patients, he noticed that the coronavirus pandemic brought with it a new form of depression which he calls "covid-19 depression."

In an interview with Marcelo Longobardi, he defined his characteristics and analyzed the emotional impact generated by the health crisis on social ties, the couple, young people and the perception of the future.

"The sadness of COVID-19 is not an ordinary sadness," says Dr. Nasio.

In his perspective, this disorder derived from the pandemic is characterized by three factors: an anxious sadness, a lot of anger and fatigue.

He also explains that people with this condition show fear of contagion and hopelessness about what will come later.

A state that, he assures, leads them to exasperation.

Longobardi asked him if that feeling could be reflected in social ties.

For Dr. Nasio, it has repercussions on authority figures.

He considers that "we all need a boss, someone to guide us" in the face of a catastrophic situation and the prolongation of the pandemic can generate distrust.

The weight of the pandemic on the family

Although not all people develop some type of mental disorder from the pandemic, Dr. Nasio maintains that its emotional impact is inevitable.

Something that produces effects on the family and especially on the bonds of a couple.

The prominent Argentine psychiatrist explains that confinement "has produced many difficulties in some couples, because they get angry with the one next to them."

He adds that "couples can't stand it, because they are not used to living 24 hours together and working in the same space."

It also identifies consequences in the attitude of young people towards the future.

He believes that confusion affects students especially, although "children and adolescents have a better capacity to adapt to adversity than adults."

Work with Lacan

Dr. Nasio studied in his native Argentina, but from a very young age he left for Paris to enrich his training in psychology.

Thanks to a scholarship, he had the opportunity to settle in France and there he met the prominent theorist Jacques Lacan.

He told Longobardi how he managed to learn French in record time and why Lacan was taken by surprise by his arrival.

Nasio worked alongside him for several years and became the head of one of his famous seminars.

In addition, he became a professor at the Sorbonne University, where he practiced for a decade.

The complete interview with Dr. Juan David Nasio is this Sunday, March 4, "In Dialogue with Longobardi", at 9 pm, Miami time, 11 pm, Buenos Aires time, on CNN en Español.
