This is how emotionally the SPD argues about identity politics: Wolfgang Thierse and his "reactionary, fascist shit"

2021-03-07T06:34:24.127Z

Older comrades rely on traditional SPD topics, while younger comrades around party leader Saskia Esken are campaigning for minorities such as the queer community. Which course will lead you out of the crisis?

Wolfgang Thierse received an email these days.

“Well, it's your own fault.

Anyone who utters anti-gay, reactionary, backwoodsmen, fascist shit, has to expect such a reaction.

Convert to the religious fascists of the Union and be happy there.

An angry gay comrade. "

The Social Democrat and former President of the Bundestag Thierse is sitting in his Berlin apartment when he reads the mail on the phone.

In his long political career he has always been on the side of the progressives.

He was in resistance against the GDR regime.

Later he fought like no other against the dangers of right-wing extremism.

In his SPD he belonged to the left wing.

Now he is suddenly seen as reactionary, as an old white man from yesterday who allegedly missed the connection with the present.

The "fascist shit" that Thierse uttered was a guest article for the "FAZ".

In it, he had honed his language and expressed his discomfort at the excesses of the so-called identity politics.

Thierse described his concern for a society that disintegrated into particular interests.

He is experiencing new iconoclasms, today something is called Cancel Culture.

Quote: "Left identity politics is in danger of shortening and narrowing the necessary enforcement and communication processes."

Thierse also complained about something that has been bothering many social democrats for years: "In any case, topics of cultural affiliation seem to arouse and divide our western societies more than issues of distributive justice."
