The government's easing of the coronavirus is barely offering the restaurants any prospects.

Some reactions at Tegernsee are violent: Voitlhof host Josef Wolfgang Bogner speaks of a "laughing stock".

  • The Corona easing only allows the outdoor catering to be opened with conditions.

  • The reactions of the hosts at Tegernsee are sometimes violent.

  • Many are angry about the Corona resolutions and do not want to open.

  • By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our new, regular Tegernsee newsletter.

Tegernseer Tal

- The specifications are complicated.

And in the opinion of Josef Wolfgang Bogner, they make the practical implementation almost impossible.

“As long as there are so many stones in our way, we don't need to open the door,” says the owner of the Voitlhof in Rottach-Egern annoyed.

In his eyes, politics has failed completely.

Corona easing in Bavaria: hosts angry - government decisions signs of helplessness

Specifically, the prescribed direction for the inns looks like this: If the 7-day incidence - as is currently the case in the Miesbach district - is stable between 50 and 100, outdoor restaurants can open from March 22nd.

However, prior reservation and contact follow-up are required.

If people from several households are sitting at the same table, a daily Covid-19 test of the guests is required.

These hurdles are only removed if the district has remained below the incidence value of 50 for at least 14 days.

For the Bogner family, who also run the Siebenhütten excursion destination in Kreuth, these government resolutions are a sign of helplessness.

Block off the beer garden, send guests away without a reservation, have a negative corona test shown - "What are they asking of us?", Angry Josef Bogner, senior boss of the Voitlhof and also chairman of the Rottach-Egern tourist office.

The government’s action goes to the kidneys of the restaurateur: "It breaks us psychologically."

In addition, there is a dependency on the weather when the business focuses purely on the beer garden.

"That brings us zero point zero," says Christian Totzauer, operator of the Schwaiger Alm in Wildbad Kreuth, about the tentative easing.

As long as the guests are not allowed to move inwards when the weather is dubious, opening the classic excursion restaurant is "almost not feasible" for him.

The effort and risk are simply too great: What happens if you start up operations completely and then suddenly the weather changes?

Peter Hubert, host of the Tegernseer Bräustüberl, has similar concerns.

“As much as we would like to work, but under these conditions it will be difficult,” says the operator of what is probably the best-known inn at Tegernsee.

The required reservations and the hygiene concept are not the problem - but: A pure opening of the outdoor area is economically difficult to implement.

"We have to keep the staff on call and buy fresh goods," says Hubert.

Given the weather conditions in this country, this is difficult to plan.

“In spring we often only have five degrees, so the radiant heater is of no use either.” Hubert also sees a problem in the quick or self-tests for guests that are required by politicians.

“I don't think there are enough of them available yet.” Concerns that make it difficult for Hubert to decide whether to open it.

Schorsch Weber, owner of the Jennerwein inn in Gmund, is already determined.

He too would have liked to be able to open his business normally again at Easter, but he also wants to use the option now offered and at least entertain his guests in the open air again.

“We are already used to the bureaucracy,” he says.

Otherwise he is well prepared for the garden business with patio heaters and blankets.

The extension of the lockdown without any prospect of opening up for the tourism industry is also annoying the hoteliers in the Tegernsee valley.

And the hope that the ski lifts will still be able to open this winter is almost gone.

In the Alpen-Plus ski areas, uncertainty has grown further after the easing that has now been decided.
