"Revenge porn": a tweet from the national police arouses excitement before being deleted

If the police spoke of a "clumsiness", many Internet users were indignant by considering that this message "made the victims feel guilty".

What is it about?

“He received your nude.

Your friends, your parents, your classmates, your cousins, your teachers, your neighbors, your baker, your ex-boyfriend, your postman, your grandparents, your niece too ”.

In a tweet published by the national police account on Saturday, March 6, this text, written in white letters on a red background, was surrounded by drawings representing a young man and a young woman each using their mobile phones.

In the caption was written:

"[Sexting]

Send a nude, it is accepting to take the risk of seeing this shared photo

".

This message was to be part of a prevention campaign broken down into a series of tweets, which ended with a message devoted to the sanctions incurred by the authors of “revenge porn”.

Why has this tweet created controversy?

This tweet quickly caused a stir on social networks.

Some people considered it to be misguided above all, believing that it could however be useful for the purpose of prevention.

"Without going so far as to 'make people feel guilty', is it not useful to 'make them responsible'?"

Is “revenge porn” criminally reprehensible?

Since October 7, 2016, the date of the enactment of the law for a digital republic, the fact of sharing intimate content without the consent of the person is criminally reprehensible.

Article 226-2-1 of the Penal Code punishes with two years in prison and a fine of 60,000 euros

How did the police react?

On Saturday March 6, a few tens of minutes after the tweet was published, the national police deleted the offending message.

“We never carry the idea that the victims could be responsible for the situation they endure.

This tweet was therefore a mistake that we chose to correct by deleting it, ”

“The national police are constantly confronted with the suffering and sometimes the distress of the victims;

the police are doing all they can to help them.
