The Starnberg fire brigade has put a 42-year-old vehicle back into service.

The sturdy tanker will serve as a "water barrel" until the city can purchase a vehicle that has been planned since 2013.

Starnberg

- Anyone who is currently watching the Starnberg fire brigade move out will notice that another fire truck that looks like it was from the 1970s has recently been on board.

The impression is not deceptive, because the TLF 16/25 tank tender was built in 1978. Commander Markus Grasl does not want to hear “oldtimers” about the “tanker”, rather it is “robust technology” and a contribution of the Wehr to the city's austerity efforts .

Since 2014, the Starnberg fire brigade has had two modern rescue vehicles (HLF 20), the workhorses of the fire brigade, which are deployed on practically every occasion.

They each have 1600 liters of water with them, for a total of 3200 liters.

But that is not always enough, for example when larger quantities of extinguishing water are required in the event of a fire and the construction of hose lines from hydrants is more complex.

That is why the fire brigade has put the "tanker" back into operation, which was stationed at the local fire brigade in Hanfeld for the past few years.

A vehicle concept for the city's weirs that was decided almost ten years ago provided for the Starnberg-based company to purchase a TLF 4000, a large tank fire engine with a capacity of 4000 liters.

There is such a thing at the Söcking fire brigade, which, however, belongs to the district and is part of the disaster control.

Two of these vehicles are required for firefighting operations in the B 2 tunnel - one for the south portal, one for the north portal.

The district fire inspection had confirmed this years ago.

Large amounts of water are required, especially in the case of vehicle fires, in order to extinguish them quickly.

"We are missing a TLF," Grasl notes - because the TLF 4000 has not yet been procured.

It costs more than 400,000 euros, but is funded.

Since the Wehr has an eye on the city's financial situation, it helped itself.

The TLF from 1978 was little used in Hanfeld and suffered a little from the standstill.

So Grasl brought it back to Starnberg in consultation with the Hanfelds, the Hanfelder Wehr received a replacement vehicle, a small TSF, in return.

This also has the advantage that the drivers do not need a truck driver's license.

A new LF10 has been ordered for the Hanfeld fire department.

The old TLF was overhauled and put into service in Starnberg.

“This is a savings contribution from the fire brigade to the budget situation in the city,” says the commander.

The large TLF should be ordered when the situation has improved.

“Florian Starnberg 21/1”, the TLF's radio call name, comes out when more water is needed.

The two HLF remain the main vehicles.

With comrades who have been with us for a long time, memories come up in the TLF, because the "tanker" was in use in Starnberg for years before it was relocated to Hanfeld.

The technology is "highly functional", says Grasl, and is still able to cope with the requirements.

Meanwhile, with the help of the fire brigade association, the armed forces have bought new day shift clothing for the emergency services.

It's not just about looking good.

Day shift clothing should be worn primarily during training and service events, but if possible also under operational clothing.

After an assignment, when combat and day shift clothing stink of smoke, for example, it is centrally washed and returned to the warehouse.

In return, the firefighter receives a fresh set, which always consists of safety shoes, functional trousers, belt and a firefighter's polo shirt.

Changing clothes is part of the fire brigade's hygiene concept.
