In February 2020 the jubilation was still great: Bad Wiessee was happy about the bubbling income.

A year later, in the current budget debate in the municipal council, there is no longer any trace of euphoria: Corona is causing income to collapse - and uncertainty growing.

Bad Wiessee - treasurer Franz Ströbel didn’t long to talk about the bush at the meeting of the municipal council.

“That was a very difficult budget for me,” he said when the extensive, over 30 million euro financial work came on the table.

Because of the Corona crisis, there are question marks behind many items.

“The community”, the long-time treasurer made clear, “is on the arm of the economy”.

When companies are doing badly, the municipality is also doing badly.

Ströbel cited the trade tax and the casino tax as examples.

Last year around this time, the municipal councils were happy about the upward trend at the casino and a top result from 2019: At that time, a good 3.7 million euros in casino levy flowed into the municipal bag (we reported).

Because of the pandemic and the associated closure of the casino, it is unclear what will become of this source of income this year.

At the same time, Bad Wiessee is dragging a huge mountain of debt totaling around 24.7 million euros.

Much of this debt stems from the purchase of the iodine sulfur bath.

Ströbel warned against excessive new borrowing of the community: "The future generation must be able to act."

Kurt Sareiter (CSU) also spoke of a “very difficult household in difficult times”.

The planned investments are overdue, and many things are compulsory.

At one “sore point”, however, Sareiter was annoyed: “The operating deficit in the new iodine bath worries me,” he explained.

In 2021 the municipality expects a minus of 750,000 euros.

His nephew and CSU parliamentary group spokesman Florian Sareiter saw it similarly.

He also addressed the “negative thing about the bath house numbers” and said: “It can only get better.” Incidentally, he emphasized that all budget items are pure budget figures: “We don't know where we're going.” He could do that Definitely agree to the budget, announced Florian Sareiter.

"The compulsory tasks are in the foreground."

Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) described the budget as "monumental".

Bad Wiessee has enormous things to do for a 5000-inhabitant community - “that is a great responsibility for us”.

Kühn thanked the chamberlain “for showing us the right way”.

In addition to the upcoming necessary investments - including road, bridge and canal renovations - the municipality of Bad Wiessee is also investing a lot of money in the future of tourism.

As examples, Kühn cited the planned new construction of the pergola, the new toilet facility and the theme of spa music.

Kühn: "This is a clear commitment by this municipal council to tourism."

As in the previous year, the municipal council unanimously approved the budget this year.

This time, however, because of Corona under completely different conditions.
