The central government proposes to reform the Hong Kong electoral system, and the National People's Congress is deliberating a draft decision on "improving Hong Kong's electoral system."
Tan Yaozong, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said today (8th) that he has read the draft document and revealed that the draft is only a few pages, and only puts forward principled practices, without specifically mentioning the distribution of seats in the Legislative Council.
When interviewed by the media, Tan Yaozong said that he had read the draft on "Improving the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Electoral System" and could not disclose the content so far.
He pointed out that the draft is only a principled decision and some figures are mentioned, but the specific distribution of seats will still be left to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to decide later.
Tan Yaozong believes that after the National People's Congress has passed the decision, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress will soon hold a meeting to finalize a specific reform draft plan. He believes that many meetings may not be necessary.
