Evacuation of the quays of the Seine: Anne Hidalgo assures that she was not warned

2021-03-08T10:53:29.630Z

The town hall of Paris, which claims not to have been made aware of the evacuation of the quays this weekend, calls for an adaptation of the curfew

Anne Hidalgo will demand accounts.

Invited by France Inter this morning, the mayor of Paris said that she had not been made aware of the police operation carried out this weekend on the quays of the Seine.

“Objectively, for more than a year, we can say that the French, the Parisians, are very reasonable.

I was shocked by these images, I was not warned, it is very shocking for me ”, declared the councilor at the microphone, who will ask the prefect of police“ the legal basis of this intervention ”.

She also calls for an adaptation of the curfew in the capital.

Despite a British variant now dominant, and an epidemic situation in Paris "serious", according to Anne Hidalgo, the curfew at 6 pm is too early.

The mayor of Paris defended on Monday the idea of a curfew adapted to life in the capital.

“At 6 pm, we are in the middle of the afternoon in Paris,” she insisted.

If she has no other schedule to prefer for the moment, for the city councilor, this curfew poses many difficulties, especially in public transport.

An idea also supported by the UDI mayor of Sceaux and secretary general of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF), Philippe Laurent.

"I'm not on the idea of confinement"

Asked about the proposal attributed to the mayor of Paris to establish a three-week confinement, Anne Hidalgo swept this option, refuting to have been at the origin.

“It's not my thinking, nor the way I work.

I'm not on the idea of confinement.

It is something unbearable for our fellow citizens.

The only way out is to speed up the vaccination, ”she insisted.

Across the Ile-de-France region, more than 100 vaccination centers were opened this weekend to sell more than 50,000 doses.

“This weekend we had 12,000 vaccinations in Paris, but I don't want it to be a one shot,” she warned.

For the councilor, the key to the “Zero Covid” strategy does not rest on confinement, but on vaccination and collective immunity.

The only certainty, she will call "always to defeat the extreme right", in the event of a duel in the second round of the presidential election, even if she also calls for "not to close the democratic game considering that today , a little over a year before this deadline [of 2022], the game would be over and we would already know the political offers and the candidates, and even the result of the first and second rounds ”.
