Gilching - For Gilching's mayor Manfred Walter it was "a pleasant day".

On Friday he was officially presented with the Fairtrade certificate on behalf of the community.

“This is the license to continue walking,” he appealed to the assembly in the town hall to support the project positively.

Around a dozen guests, including administrative staff, local councils and representatives from the schools, attended the ceremony.

It was also broadcast live via video stream.

In his greeting, Walter emphasized that he had visited a coffee plantation on one of his trips to Mexico and that he had taken the fair trade idea with him from there.

He is therefore fully behind the 2017 resolution of the local council to join the Fairtrade Town idea.

"We are the 726th parish with this title in Germany," said Walter.

In the meantime eleven retailers, a hotel, a large bakery, the family island, the Christoph-Probst-Gymnasium (CPG) and the Catholic parish of St. Sebastian have joined the movement.

According to Walter Christine Hammel, who is responsible for the climate, the environment and energy in the town hall, the engine that drove the whole thing forward and kept it running.

“She recently joined the team and got used to the topic within a very short time,” praised Walter.

At the same time, he pointed out that so far only the minimum requirements for the award had been achieved.

Now it is important to stick with it and find as many other supporters as possible.

Annika Waymann presented the certificate.

The one-world regional promoter Upper Bavaria South congratulated the community on being a member of an ever-growing community and wished good luck for further projects.

As a representative of the District Office, climate officer Josefine Anderer-Hirt surprised the auditorium with a children's song that was converted to Fairtrade - a children's choir sang in the background, Anderer-Hirt played the violin live.

Students from the CPG also sent a video message.

They pointed out that they had already been a Fairtrade school for a year and that they were also adopting this idea within the school, for example by selling homemade cakes or by using “fair” volleyballs.

Manfred Walter emphasized that the community is also setting a good example.

“We pay attention to fair products when procuring work clothes as well as coffee and other beverages.” If you have any questions about Fairtrade products or Fairtrade in general, Christine Hammel is available at z (0 81 05) 38 66 73 or by email hammel@gemeinde.gilching.de available.
