Munich - Nowadays there are numerous power women.

You rule countries, run companies and influence the whole world.

Nevertheless, women and men are not yet equal.

For more than 100 years, millions of people around the world have taken to the streets on March 8th to stand up for women's rights.

History and date of International Women's Day

On March 19, 1911, several million women protested in Germany, Denmark, Austria-Hungary and Switzerland.

Ten years later, International Women's Day is set on March 8th to commemorate textile workers in New York who demonstrated in 1871 for better working conditions.

In Germany, International Women's Day goes back to the socialist Clara Zetkin.

At the Second International Socialist Women's Conference in 1910, she and Käte Duncker campaigned for an International Women's Day.

It was not until 1975 that the UN declared March 8th as “International Women's Day”.

In Germany, March 8th has many names among them: International Women's Day, International Women's Day, Women's Fighting Day, International Women's Fighting Day or simply Women's Day.

International Women's Day is very present on social media, such as Instagram, and women around the world are called upon to fight for their rights.

International Women's Day: Stopping Gender-Based Violence

Gender-based violence against women is also a big topic on International Women's Day.

This often manifests itself in domestic and sexual violence, but sexual harassment is also included.
