The Italian Ministry of Health on Monday March 8 authorized the administration of the anti-Covid vaccine AstraZeneca to people over 65 years of age.

In a press release, the ministry specified that the vaccine could be used on this category of the population with the exception of "
extremely vulnerable
" people, in particular people with weakened immune defenses or taking drugs making them more vulnerable to Covid.
Health Minister Roberto Speranza announced on Sunday March 7 this decision on the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is part of the government's policy of accelerating the vaccine campaign.
Like other European countries, Italy faces delays in vaccine deliveries. So far 5.4 million doses have been administered and only 1.65 million people have received the two doses needed to be immunized. According to the minister, Italy aims to vaccinate "
at least half
" of its population of 60 million people by the end of June.
