Stuttgart

- The VW subsidiary Porsche AG increases its stake in the Croatian sports car manufacturer Rimac again.

In its most recent meeting, the supervisory board agreed to increase the stake in Rimac Automobili from 15 to 24 percent, the Swabians announced on Monday.

The Stuttgart-based company is paying 70 million euros for the move.

As early as September 2019, Porsche increased its stake in the Zagreb-based company by 15 percent as part of a capital increase.

"Rimac is" excellently positioned for prototype solutions and small series, "said Porsche CFO Lutz Meschke.

From industry circles it is said that the renewed capital increase could now pave the way for a sale of the VW subsidiary Bugatti to Rimac.

With an annual production of around 80 vehicles and prices in the millions, the traditional manufacturer from Alsace is considered the most exclusive car manufacturer in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo is considered one of the biggest Bugatti fans.

With the Bugatti Centodieci, the Bugatti Veyron and the Bugatti Chiron, the Portuguese is said to have three cars from the Alsatian manufacture in the garage.

VW: Repeated speculation about the future of Bugatti

In the past few months there had been repeated speculation about a possible sale of Bugatti.

For example, the Bloomberg news agency reported on an impending separation from Bugatti and referred to strategic issues.

VW boss Herbert Diess is trimming the group with power in the direction of e-mobility.

The luxury sledges with engine power of 1500 HP don't really fit into the concept anymore.

In contrast, Rimac relied on electric drives at an early stage.

The hypercars from Croatia have up to 2000 hp and reach crazy - and quite questionable - top speeds of up to 400 km / h.

In addition to mega-racing cars, the company, which was founded in 2009, also supplies components for several well-known manufacturers of electric drives.

Porsche is also one of the customers.
