The attack on an Israeli-owned ship in the Gulf of Oman by Iran was carried out in response to an Israeli covert operation, a senior security official said today (Sunday), and rejected previous assessments of the reason for the attack.
The same source explained that contrary to previous allegations, the explosion on the ship Helios Ray was not carried out in response to the assassination of former Quds Force commander Qassem Suleimani and Iranian nuclear scientist Muhsin Fahrizadeh.
The source said that in the past year there have been attempts by Iran to carry out attacks against Israeli interests, but they have been disrupted by Israel.
One of the most notable cases was the explosion near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi, India, which he said had failed, and due to fears by its planners that they attributed the operation to Iran - Tehran did not take responsibility.
