In fact, leftover food also has recycling value. In July 2018, the Environmental Protection Department opened the "O. PARK1" organic resource recycling center in Siu Ho Wan, North Lantau. It is the first food waste recycling facility in Hong Kong. The center can convert food waste into Biogas is used for power generation.

PARK1 is the first facility in Hong Kong to convert food waste into electricity, which is designed to process approximately 200 tonnes of food waste per day.

Starting from March 1 this year, the Environmental Protection Department has arranged for the center to be open to the public and accept online booking of guided tours.

At present, there are only 4 guided tours a day, which are conducted in Cantonese, English and Mandarin. They are closed on Tuesdays.

Due to restricted gatherings, currently guided tours can only be grouped by 3 visitors.

If the gathering restriction order is relaxed, a group of 8 to 10 people can normally be arranged.

There are also group visits in the center for applications from primary and secondary schools or different organizations.

Later, you can watch the animation at the "O. CLUB" theater equipped with 360-degree panoramic views and 3D projection technology. Together with the 4 food waste characters, they will be transported to O.

At the end of the guided tour, visitors will receive a package of compost produced in the process of processing food waste as a souvenir.
