The immunization campaign of the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria was launched today (Monday).

The stated goal is to vaccinate 120,000 Palestinian workers working in Israel and across the Green Line within ten days.

In a conversation with Walla!

The vaccinators are asking that they also allow their families to receive the corona vaccine to protect themselves from the disease and return to routine.

Eight vaccine complexes were opened today at the crossings between the PA and Israel: Gilboa (Jalama), Sha'ar Ephraim (Artah), Eyal, Hashmonaim (Na'alin), Tarkumiya, Meitar in the southern Har Harbon, beyond LH and the Bethlehem checkpoint (Rachel's crossing). Amos Zoarz, the health coordinator of the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria, will open four complexes in industrial areas in the territories for ten days tomorrow: in Barkan, Ariel, Efrat and Mishor Adumim, and in 28 days the workers will receive a second dose of vaccine.

At the Bethlehem checkpoint, about 200 Palestinian workers began vaccinating as early as this morning.

Inside the compound, instructions were kept and order was maintained, but outside, dozens of Palestinians waited in great density.

Absurdly, the guidelines were not followed.

"I came to be vaccinated in Corona, so that we can enter (Israel - Israel) and not be infected," said Hassan Sharha, a worker from the village of Dura in the Ramallah area who works in Jerusalem. He said, "If I do not get vaccinated, my permits will not be renewed." Thank you for storing us, everything is in order, it's good for everyone. "

Some of the workers who came to get vaccinated waited a few minutes in the compound to make sure there were no unusual side effects, and from there continued to their jobs at construction sites in Jerusalem.

The director general of the Ministry of Health, Professor Hezi Levy, also came to the compound to see up close how the vaccination operation was carried out. "It is very important," he says. "Every day, about 130,000 Palestinians enter Israel.

We thought it was right to vaccinate them and prevent the passage of disease from the Palestinian Authority, where there is heavy disease.

We are coordinated with the authority to check for any post-vaccination symptoms.

"This is one epidemiological area (Israel and the Palestinian Authority - Israel). The vaccination of the Palestinian population is in the hands of the PA. We can help with knowledge and experience, but transferring the vaccines to the Palestinian Authority is a political matter."

Asked about the outbreak of the corona in the Palestinian Authority and the danger of losing control there, Levy said that in Israel "information is exchanged with them, and as for the rest - things are in negotiations and this is not the time to elaborate on it."

Lt. Col. Tali Aharon, head of the Bethlehem Civil Administration's Coordination and Liaison Office at the Civil Administration, said that "the Palestinian Authority is very prepared for the move. We are investing a very wide-ranging information effort.

Business as usual

Amar Elian from Abu Dis, a construction worker in Talpiot, waited a long time to get the permit to get vaccinated.

As outside the compound, he thanks Israel for the vaccines and wants not to forget those who do not work in Israel.

"It feels good that we and our health are being taken care of, all the workers need to be vaccinated. The Palestinians need to be vaccinated as well, we live together," he says.

According to him, the fear is not only of infection in Corona, but also of the loss of livelihood in Israel "due to the disease and isolation."

Avi Ben Hamo, chairman of the Jerusalem Region at the Manufacturers' Association, arrived at the vaccination compound today, believing that the operation will help manufacturers and contractors who have experienced a major crisis recently. "As with everyone, the crisis hit us with patients and isolation, both in industry and construction.

The damage was also in vital industries like food, medical equipment, construction inputs and more.

That is why it was so important to us to vaccinate the Palestinian workers as quickly as possible.

To my delight after much of our pressure, the government has finally agreed to vaccinate the workers to maintain business continuity.

We are always committed to maintaining the health of our workers, Israelis and Palestinians, who always work together in coexistence, side by side. "

High responsiveness.

Ahmad Shosha from Kfar Husam claims that there is a very high response from Palestinian workers to get vaccinated at the crossings.

"Everything will be fine, we are satisfied, I feel good. If the Palestinian Authority fails to obtain vaccines, Israel must bring them, most of the workers who come want to be vaccinated."

The decision to start the vaccination campaign of Palestinian workers comes in part following international criticism in recent weeks that Israel is not helping the Palestinian Authority with enough corona vaccines, and after a phone call between US Secretary of State Tony Blinkan and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi. .

Israel assists the PA with a token amount of vaccines for medical staff.
