An accountant from the Corrientes town of Paso de los Libres was killed by 30 stab wounds by a co-worker with whom he would have shared a very close relationship in recent times.
The murderer was arrested hours later and said that the attack was the product of an "
emotional slip
".
The investigation began in the early hours of Saturday, when a person contacted the police and alerted that in the area of the Ombucito area, near the María Auxiliadora chapel, they had found a person lying with several knife wounds.
A patrol quickly arrived at the scene, in the rural area of Paso de los Libres, and found that the young man was already dead.
The victim was identified as Brian "Pitu" Zabalo, 28, who worked in a customs brokers office.
About two hours later and several kilometers later, the Police found Zabalo's Fiat Siena abandoned with the front left door open.
The car was in the vicinity of the bridge "Farewell", closer to the urban area.
Large bloodstains were found inside, which shows that the victim was attacked in that place.
The forensic doctors confirmed that he suffered 30 stitches, mainly in the chest and neck, injuries that caused his death quickly due to profuse bleeding.
Under the orders of the prosecutor Facundo Sotelo, the Police began to rebuild the last hours of the meter's life.
The discovery of 12,000 pesos in cash in one of the victim's pockets caused the motive for the robbery to be quickly discarded.
Zabalo's family reported that the young man had left at night in the Fiat Siena, after spending two weeks isolated by coronavirus.
The accountant, who was also about to graduate from a mathematics teacher and is part of a well-known family from Paso de los Libres, had agreed to meet Ramiro Benítez, 30, with whom he shared the job.
Investigators located the suspect in front of his home, in the area of Plácido Martínez and Hipólito Yrigoyen.
At first, the suspect was calm, but police officers noted that he
had some fresh cut injuries on his hands
.
When they searched his house, the agents found Zabalo's cell phone and confirmed that they had agreed to meet.
In addition, there were clothes with blood stains and there were the keys to the Fiat Siena.
Overwhelmed by the situation, Benítez ended up confessing the crime and alleged that it was an "emotional slip" that he had during the meeting.
However, that statement must be ratified this week in his inquiry to have judicial validity.
