Messages from fraudsters are circulating again and again, especially on WhatsApp.

The State Criminal Police Office of Hesse is now warning of a particularly perfidious scam.

Wiesbaden - WhatsApp * is the most popular messenger service in Germany.

But precisely because it is so popular, it is also repeatedly abused by fraudsters.

In a press release, the LKA Hessen warns of fake WhatsApp * messages.

Accordingly, fraudsters act as employees of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) to lure the victims into a trap.

WhatsApp: Time and again, users are victims of fraudsters

According to the LKA Hessen, the perpetrators warn of alleged break-ins by organized burglar gangs in the immediate vicinity of the victim.

In order to gain the trust of WhatsApp users and to convey the most serious impression possible, the WhatsApp messages are provided with the official BKA logo.

Aim of the fraudsters: To scare the victim of a break-in.

The victim is then persuaded to contact a cell phone number for more information.

But instead of clearing up about the intruders, the WhatsApp users are involved in a conversation.

The scammers then try to convince the victim to safeguard their assets by placing valuables outside the home.

BKA officials would then collect and secure the valuables unnoticed.

WhatsApp recommends these measures to the LKA

In order to prevent the fraudsters from accessing the net, the LKA recommends ignoring the messages and under no circumstances calling the stored telephone number.

In addition, those affected should not let strangers into the apartment.

If unknown persons pretend to be police officers, the LKA recommends that you always ask for your ID card.

The police also explain that if there is the slightest doubt, the person concerned should call the authority for which the person claims to be working. “Find the telephone number of the authority yourself or ask the directory assistance service to give you this.

Important: meanwhile let the visitor wait in front of the locked door. ”In addition, the police pointed out that investigators would never demand money or valuables.

Also, you should not give any information about assets or valuables in the apartment to strangers at the door.

In the past few months there have been more reports of scams on WhatsApp.

The fraudsters often try to gain access to the smartphones and thus the data of the WhatsApp users via false download links.
